The Atlanta Regional Commission is one of 12 Regional Commissions in Georgia established by the Georgia Planning Act to help local governments with community planning. Over the years, ARC’s portfolio has expanded and now includes regional transportation planning, aging services, water resources management, workforce development, and homeland security, under the federal Urban Area Security Initiative. ARC plays a unique role in metro Atlanta in that we are charged with considering issues from a regional perspective. After all, so many of our biggest challenges, things like transportation, workforce and the economy, air quality, and water resources don’t stop at the city or county line. They affect all of us.
